Description
D&P Management provided project management support for the delivery of a new international-standard motocross track at the Hidden Valley Motorsports Complex, enabling Darwin to host the FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP) for the first time in over 24 years.
The project required coordination of multiple multidisciplinary construction packages to deliver a world-class motorsport facility within a strict international event deadline.
D&P Management’s responsibilities included:
- Project planning and program development

- Design and construction coordination across civil, electrical and hydraulic disciplines

To deliver the project, five separate contracts were commissioned to complete civil works, electrical upgrades, hydraulic infrastructure, landscaping and specialist racetrack construction.
Key Construction activities included:
- Clearing and grubbing works
- Construction of pit lane pads and access pathways
- Stormwater drainage and culvert upgrades
- Installation of water and sewer infrastructure
- Relocation of high-voltage overhead electrical services underground
- Installation of a new electrical substation
- Landscaping and batter stabilisation works
- Installation of fencing and guardrail modifications
- Supply and placement of approximately 45,000m³ of specialised motocross track material
- Installation of 30,000m² of grassing
Specialist motocross track construction and certification works were delivered by an international racetrack contractor to meet FIM MXGP technical standards.
Issues/Challenges and how they were resolved
The project was delivered under a fixed, immovable deadline aligned with the international MXGP event schedule, requiring disciplined program control and proactive management to ensure on-time completion.

Success of Project
The MXGP track was successfully delivered within the required timeframe, enabling Darwin to host the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship. The project achieved the delivery of Australia’s first purpose-built MXGP track in approximately 20 years, meeting international competition and safety standards.
Key outcomes included effective coordination of multiple contractors within a constrained program and the creation of a world-class facility that generated significant economic and tourism benefits for the Northern Territory. The project’s success is further demonstrated by Darwin securing the MXGP season finale again in 2026.
